Graduation Dinner

It was a full day today. Along with a trip to The Riverwalk, we had Richard's graduation dinner. We were under the impression it was military formal (Mess Dress). It was't. WHEW! It was nice. We enjoyed it. Jo and Richard sat immediately across the table from us but all we saw was the sides of their heads as they leaned in, whispering to each other. Richard will be assigned to University Medical Center in Lubbock for his Army National Guard Reserve assignments. That's one week-end a month ans 2 weeks in the summer. Yes, he could still go to Afghanistan or Iraq but.... well, we'll keep praying.

San Antonio Riverwalk

This afternoon we went to The Riverwalk with some old friends, Destiny (white tank top) Michelle (purple preggie) Krystal (blue preggie) and their daughters Miss Daphne (Michelle's daaughter) and Hailey(Dest's daughter, in orange). Richard was on lock-down for the day and couldn't get away. It's pretty obvious from Jo's back to the camera,
she was on the phone with Richard. Lock-down does not stop love. :-)

San Antonio motel

We are in San Antonio, celebrating with my daughter, her husband's completion of Army Tech School and return trip home to Lubbock. Our plan was to stay 5 days. Jo and Richard would remain an additional 4 days celebrating a second honeymoon.

Now, for details on the motel.

I was quite pleased but nervous about some motel reservations I had made for San Antonio. The price was good, in fact so good I should have been suspicious. Not me. You see, I have blonde roots.

Using my dear Tom Tom (GPS) we arrived at the motel. I looked at it, feeling very suspicious. Maybe it was the non-existing pool. Possibly the barefoot, short wearing attendant- but after all, this IS San Antonio! No continental breakfast as advertised. We would have a frige and microwave. I could hang. No problem. No problem UNTIL we stepped across the threshold into the room. This moldy disgusting, nauseating stench overwhelmed us. Jo came flying out of her room, a sick exression on her her face. Travers, a real man, made no comment. We had no choice but to suck up and deal with it becaue there were no refunds.

I tried to connect to the net. No problem. Three wireless connections to choose from. Three wireless conections with signals so weak they were no existant except for showing-up on my screen. The clerk suggested I take it up to him. Okay. In his own manly way he was going to connect when I couldn't. WRONG! (I admit it. I was feeling a little smug at this point). According to the web-page, no refunds. We both knew it. I turned to him, after Bill had already complained several times in a few brief minutes, and said,"I want a refund" His response, mixed with a certain amount of relief, "okay."

Jo flew back to her room and loaded her car in record time! She and Travers began work on our room as we finalized the credit on our charge card.

We found another motel. Only a half mile away and still close to Ft. Sam Houston (jo's primary concern :-)). I have internet. We have breakfast. Best of all, it's CLEAN!!!!! I'm so happy!!!!

I called my credit card company. A dear lady who spoke English was very nice, advising me to check back in a few days to make sure the credit went through.

There's a musty smell in the room. That's okay. San Antonio is always humid and today seems worse with impending showers in the air. The cooler is merrily humming away and I can hear Bill snoring as he pretends he's watching reruns of NCIS.

God is TOO TOO GOOD! We couldn't afford to pay for a motel room we weren't going to use while I stay in another motel. Wasn't going to happen. God always takes care when you trust in him.

I am so blessed! I mean that sincerely! This past week-end Bill and I spent in Denver, CO at a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Convention. You can't see it in the first pic, but in the center, directly behind tthe flagpole is the blue CASA ribbon. This is on the state capital recognizing CASA. I had an opportunity to hear the renouned (or is it "infamous") Dr. Phil and his wife Robin give the keynote address. And yes, Robin really is THAT skinny and both were very sweet.

Bill and I are staunch supporters of volunteerism. We all need to give back, either though our church, an oerganization or maybe looking in on that little old lady that lives down the street. It's seeing beyond the tip of our nose to the world around us.

Off my soapbox. :-)

Have a fanstatic Friday and a wonderful week-end!
