Cranberry's Gender

Last Wednesday we drove to Lubbock for the grand reveal of Cranberry's gender. For months, Bill & I have been predicting a girl. Our shopping was not totally centered on pink but it was alway our general focus. In our minds, Cranberry was a "she." In fact, a few days earlier I'd made a blanket with Jo & Richard's favorite scripture from Jeremiah. The blanket was brown & pink.

We arrived in LBB with no problems. We had brought a couple boxes of Daylight donuts for breakfast. The dr appointment was at 10:15 with the ultrasound later in the day. Except for high blood pressure, the morning appointment went well.

That afternoon, Jo & Richard went for the ultrasound. They walked in the house smiling afterwards. Hands on my hips, I asked "Well?" Fav daughter's response was "Well what? You know we can't tell you until we tell Richard's parents." Richard, not wanting to get between a mother and a daughter took the typical "Talk to your daughter" stand as he took off for a hiding place in the bedroom. Was he avoiding me???

Frustration crept in. They had a secret and I wanted to know it. After all, I was the soon-to-be grandmother! To avoid the subject, I suggested we go to Sam's. Maybe by the time we were done there, Richard could call his parents. Doubtful but maybe.

On the way over to Sam's, Richard was handed my phone. His instructions were simple, call his dad and see when mom would be off work. Mom answered!! My period of parental abuse and emotional torture was nearing an end!

After explaining to mom she needed to make sure the phone was on speaker and verifying his dad was there, a blue marshmallow chick came flying up from the back seat as in unison Jo & Richard told their respective parents, "It's a BOY!" My response was "Are you sure? Are you serious?" Josphine kept her laughter under control as she affirmed they saw the pictures and it's "a boy."

His name will be Oliver Travers Reedy. Nice sounding, huh? Oliver, beacuse it was a name they both liked. Travers because they are close to Travers and it's a way to carry a little bit of "Boeshaar" lineage to Oliver. Especially funny if you knew how Travers got his name. Never mind. An old family story to be saved for another post. :-) Besides, Oliver Travers Reedy is better than Oliver Boeshaar Reedy. Trust me, I've seen parents at school do that at school all too frequently.

So Sept 3rd, maybe earlier or maybe later, Oliver Travers Reedy will make his debut! May he grow up wrapped securely in the love of the Reedy's and Boeshaar's. More importantly, may he come to know Jesus and His love at an early age. May we as family be the compass that helps him find that direction to Him.
